Playing to Your Edge
by guest blogger Lauren Moran
Today is day 7 so we are half way through our training. It poured rain last night – really hard rain and lasted through our morning practice. We started off with a light flow and then each of us taught a small portion of our sequence. It was hard to get into it because it was so wet and gloomy out but after a couple times around it became quite fun. The meals are starting to get a bit easier – less complaints! I am always excited for meal time to see what kind of amazing food combination and presentation we will get. Everyone seems to be more satisfied at the variety and portions we are provided.
Experiencing life in a third world country definitely opens your eyes as to how lucky we are to live in America. We often times take for granted the fact that we have food to eat but also food to waste! I have so much respect and gratitude for the team of people who are preparing our food – so much goes into gathering, cooking and serving each meal.
Our afternoon included a fun activity where we had to create a small sequence based on a couple random postures drawn from our flashcards. It was challenging but actually made me more comfortable with preparing to teach classes on the fly!
In the evening, we danced! It was so great to see everyone having such a good time and just being free and for some of us – coming out of our shells. The music and dancing brought not only great energy to our circle but also I think we got to know each other a little bit better. It is so great that our group of girls get along so well – definitely makes our long, hard days more fun.
We concluded our evening with a demo of our flashcard flows – it was fun to see how everything came together after several hours of modifications.
So far this program has been exactly what it was advertised as – INTENSIVE!
